Celebrating Our Favorite Nerds

Perhaps one of the most popular shows on television today, The Big Bang Theory has made being a nerd something cool. A show that is filled with intelligent scientists who also love comic books and all things super heroes has become one of the most watched comedies on air in years. The show was created by Chuck Lorre and is already in its ninth season. Centered on the lives of these scientists, the show works to bring everyone together for a half hour of fun.

Scientists Leonard, Sheldon, Raj, and Howard are all well educated and a little socially awkward. While they may be slightly different, the women in their lives rarely are. Penny; neighbor to Leonard and Sheldon, Bernadette; Howards girlfriend turned wife, and Amy; Sheldon’s scientist girlfriend, all have integrated themselves into the men’s lives and help them try and become just a little more socially aware.

While the show centers mostly on the lives of these characters, there are plenty of science, science fiction, and comic book references to keep everyone entertained. One of the best things about the show is that it has been able to capture the attention of many different people from across all areas of work. Not only that, but its global dominance has taken off as well, with many of the episodes in syndication on global television.

The show has garnered a lot of praise from the scientific community, and the science fiction one as well. They have had many cameo appearances by big name stars such as; Bill Nye, Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Elon Musk, Will Wheaton, Bob Newhart, and many more. Making the world of science more inclusive and making people aware of the industry itself has helped to make the show so popular. It has certainly shown its dominance week after week in television ratings, even getting renewed for a few seasons in advance.

Whether you love it or hate it, The Big Bang Theory has taken the television world by storm and created a loyal and quite dedicated fandom of people. They have a little bit of everything; science, romantic relationships, comedy, drama, you name it. It is a great way of settling down at night and bringing yourself into a world that maybe you do not know that much about. The show itself continues to be a success and it will not be going anywhere, anytime soon.
